Adidas New Video ‚Fill the Hole in Yr Heart‘ is a Nod to Fun, Self-Expression and Raw Skateboarding

The crew at Unity Skateboards has always been about coming together and being who you are in skateboarding. And adidas new video, “Fill the Hole in Yr Heart” is a nod to just that—fun, self-expression and of course, skateboarding. Check it out:

With clips from Maité Steenhoudt, Shag, Vitória Mendonça, Marbie, Shy’kiel, Jeffrey Cheung and friends, there’s a little something for everyone in here that is bound to get you fired up to hit the streets with your squad.

In fact, a few of these spots looked pretty heavy. There were definitely a few surprises in there. Say what you want, but I’m backing it. Their excitement and stoke is absolutely infectious. Haters will always be haters, but who cares—just go skate!

Unity does an incredible job inspiring countless skaters to be confident and simply get out there and rip. They give and do so much for so many folks! And at the end of the day, that’s exactly what it’s all about. Keep an open mind. Have some fun. Again… just go skate!

Nice work to all involved. Keep the hits coming.

Natas Kaupas and Grant Brittain Relive the Venice Beach Days in Celebration of NB# 480 Remix

Straight from the streets of Dogtown, Natas Kaupas and legendary lensman, J. Grant Brittain stroll around Venice Beach to reminisce about the days that basically started it all to celebrate the New Balance x Natas 480 High Remix kicks (that just dropped in skate shops today, May 17th).

Decades of friendship… decades of inspiration. This epic link up is something we didn’t realize we needed until it happened. So rad! Take a look:

If only those curbs and banks could talk! There two made so much photographic magic over the years—countless, timeless stills that truly live rent free in so many of our minds—and hearing the stories that made these moments is really awesome.

And I love how humble Natas is talking about the frontside 360 off the ledge. That was a huge deal in the 80s. Ultimately, just seeing them wandering around Venice and Santa Monica is a treat in itself, though. These two have been handling biz for so long and continue to inspire skateboarders (and aspiring photographers) all the same.

As mentioned, the New Balance 480 Highs remixed by Natas are officially on skate shop walls across the country starting today, May 17th. They’ll be online this coming Monday, May 20th. The nostalgia is so real. Honestly, though, seeing them on Natas makes them look even better than images of them by themselves! Right!?

Thank for the trip down memory lane, dudes! And thanks for the decades of inspiration.

JESUS IN the GARDEN by WAYNE “OT”

jesus in the garden wayne ourthings custom skateboard graphics hand drawn

You really can create a skateboard graphic out of anything! Wayne “OT” (OurThings Custom), designed this Featured Deck, Jesus In the Garden, on repurposed priority mail labels. “It is mixed media with Coptic markers, black pencil, metallic ink, gold leaf, actual rosary medallions, Swarovski crystals, metal flakes, [and] six coats of gloss… [It’s a] modern take on [a] biblical story. I was sick of skating off-the-shelf boards and started creating my own designs. Most are not designs you would grind a pool with, but pop on the walls of my casa. I have hundreds of original decks and decided to share them with others so they can enjoy.”

You can also create a skateboard graphic anywhere… “This board was created in the front seat of my pickup truck and [seedy] motels. All my artwork is created on the road in… motels or in my pickup, it’s a total release from my day job and totally refreshes my soul.”

Head to BoardPusher.com/ourthingcustoms to purchase Jesus In the Garden, or any of Wayne’s skateboard graphics, including 3-deck series, and follow him on Instagram @deagonfrost.

If you can design it, we can help you make it a custom skateboard graphic at BoardPusher.com. Follow us @boardpusher to see how others are creating their own skateboards.

Back in ’09, Jake and P-Stone hopped on a CONS trip with Baca and the gang to fuel the fire for a killer cover and some iconic clips. Sammy and team leader Dave Hoang recount the epic ride.

Justin Strubing Shares How To Grip the Perfect Board in Pepper Grip’s New ‚Surface Files‘

On and off the board, Justin Strubing has always been one of those dudes who simply does things his own way. The spots he skates, the tricks he takes to them… it’s always been done with style and technique. So it’s really no wonder that he takes the same approach to gripping his board.

He recently stopped by the Mesa Distribution HQ—home of Pepper Grip—and took us through his personal process of gripping his new sled. (Hey… we all have our own process, right?) Take a look below and watch him rip a few spots in the meantime with that classic Strubing style.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Justin’s skating, so I think all these clips were rad. Never gets old! But that no-comply to tail stall on that little quarterpipe from flat is one-hundred percent what I’m talking about when it comes to his unique approach—who else does stuff like that? So sick.

Also, gripping boards is such a sacred part of skateboarding! We all have our own techniques… the little things we like (and dislike), so it’s always fun to hear the subtle little quirks that our favorite pros think about when they’re gripping up their planks. It’s all a part of it!

Although, admittedly, I’ve always just been a plain black sheet type of guy myself. Simple and timeless. What about you?

Natas Kaupas Puts His Personal Touch on the Iconic New Balance 480 High Silhouette

New Balance recently teamed up with the one and only Natas Kaupas and had him add a touch of his personal flair to their iconic NB480 High silhouette.

These wild colors are a straight up blast from the past, that’s for sure, and I can totally picture someone doing a big boneless on a random bank in these things. Swipe through and get a closer look. The nostalgia is real!

What do you guys think? I spent some time in the comments and the majority of folks seem super stoked on these. I’ll admit… almost anything with Natas‘ name on it is bound to create some hype. He’s an icon and a pioneer all the same. But this collab still sort of came out of nowhere. They’re keeping us on our toes nonetheless!

A few people did ask about the colorway, however—just in general—and it seems to be one of those IYKYK type of situations. So, if you’re still unsure why, I’m sure your questions will be answered on Friday, May 20th when they hit the NB# website. In the meantime… just think about it. I bet it’ll come to some of you!

Regardless, it’s sort of like the Wild West out there these days as far as skate shoes are concerned, right? Between all the wild Dunk collabs, bright, flashy colors, beefier silhouettes and all this 80s-90s nostalgia, it seems like anything goes

Are the days of low-profile, vulcanized skate shoes gone? Not quite… but we seem to be getting closer. Personally, I’m stoked to see some of the NB# team rocking these in the streets and putting them to use. Think we’ll get some new Natas clips? Hard to tell right now, but I’m stoked to find out either way.

Again, the kicks will hit select skate shops across the globe on Friday, May 17th and will be available on the New Balance website Monday, May 20th.

Brandon Garrity Brings the Heat in His New Indy ‚Raw Ams‘ Video Part

Brandon Garrity is the type of skater to carve a route of his own at every spot he skates and we see this approach on full display in his new Indy Raw Ams part. He’ll ride the toughest walls, grind some heavy rails and ultimately puts a beating on a variety of unique spots from start to finish. Take a look:

I’ll admit that I wasn’t too familiar with Brandon before this part, but this was a perfect introduction. He looks like Kurt Cobain reincarnated, flowing through the streets like he just finished surfing, threw on some shoes and started pushing around some alleyways and your local hole-in-the-wall spots. And hey, I’m not hating by any means. I really enjoyed this part.

In my opinion, it’s a nice break from the overwhelming, highly technical, flip-in-flip-out type of video parts that have become the norm over the past few years. It’s all rad, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll always appreciate a little sidewalk surfing and anyone who takes some unique approaches to certain spots. Nothing wrong with a little style and creativity, right?

And of course, getting redemption after that brutal slam for his ender deserves some respect no matter what. He got bodied! It’s not always easy to go back and get a trick after taking a hit like that… gotta love it. Way to keep the dream alive, Brandon!
