Experience Two Decades of Portraits with Blair Alley’s New Photobook ’20 Years 100 Portraits‘

TransWorld SKATEboarding’s Blair Alley has been a major figure at TWS for over 20 years, capturing some of the most legendary characters in skateboarding along the way. His newly released photobook, „20 YEARS 100 PORTRAITS,“ features an impressive collection of unique portraits showcasing your favorite pros from the past two decades, and let me be the first to say—there are some serious gems in the mix. Check the post below for a little more info on the project and get your hands on a copy here

Surprisingly, this is Blair’s first photobook but it was certainly well worth the wait. Flipping through the pages is the perfect blend of nostalgia and intrigue; some of the older photos take you on a serious trip down memory lane! While I can only imagine how hard it would be to select 100 photos from his deep collection, the variety featured in the book is perfect—so many iconic faces are peppered in.

Blair mentioned that, „Pro skaters are notoriously bad at getting their portraits taken,“ which really makes this book that much more special. A portrait can say so much. If you’ve been into skating within the last 20 years or so, chances are you’ll recognize every face in this book. That’s half the fun.

Congrats to Blair on this epic achievement! This was a major project and a ton of heart and soul went into it. Doing anything successful for 20 years is no small feat, especially while making such a significant impact on the skateboarding world.

Buy the book here! And let the nostalgia pour in.

Niklas Stube and Mark Frölich rip it up in DOUBLE VISION, a shared video part

Despite their difference in age, Mark Frolich and Niklas Stube have been skating together for about ten years now, and it shows! Here’s a shared part for Lousy Livin and Good Manners Skateboards, with a guest appearance by Marcel Klein. Serious Euro spot FOMO in here!

Mark’s got the smooth style and light feet he’s had for years. Niklas plies his Caballerials and flip tricks to stair sets and street gaps. The back and forth is working really well here. The ledge tech is there, and Mark ain’t afraid to get up on some big handrails.

„Jokes Over“ a VX skateboarding film by Angel Hernandez

Angel Hernandez’s newest video is out! Angel lives and films heavily in Santa Barbara with deep roots with the Lighthouse Skate Shop crew. There is also a section filmed by Shane Marriott that features a bunch of Ceremony Skate Shop crew (San Luis Obispo stand up!). Run it up, these guys aren’t joking around:

Jokes Over is a VX film by Santa Barbara local, Angel Hernandez. This video displays a wide range of skateboarders from all over the world, but within the same group of friends. From years of shredding, to new additions last minute, the variety of talent showcased is limitless. No more messing around, Jokes Over.“

Isaac Relis smashes the last part. That’s a name to remember.

Paul Kobriger—Skateboard Lifer, Artist, and Sixes and Sevens Shop Owner

You ought to know Paul Kobriger from his many years of working in the skateboard industry. From TransWorld to CCS to Sun Diego and many more—everywhere he worked he made better. And if you’ve ever skated with him, he probably blew your mind.

Present day Paul runs point on Sixes and Sevens two locations in San Diego county and is taking the art and music scene by storm with his impressive photo-realistic portraits and handmade frames. Check his whole story out below:

Video by the always talented Collin Schwartz

„Over 2,000 miles away and 36 years later, Paul Kobriger remains, at heart, a skateboard lifer dedicated to keeping his childhood dream alive. His journey began in Shawano, Wisconsin, where he was introduced to skateboarding and punk rock at age eleven—an influential combination that remains with him today. The decision to move across the country to San Diego, California, right after high school was a gamble. However, Paul arrived at the right moment, connected with the right people in skateboarding, and launched a deep career in the industry. His early beginnings started with leading Sun Diego and CCS marketing efforts and assembling teams with Wes Kremer, Tyler Surrey, Marius Syvänen, Silas Baxter-Neal, Torrey Pudwill, and Ryan Sheckler just to name a few. However, in the wake of the economic recession led to the end of CCS but a new chapter at TransWorld SKATEboarding. Being surrounded by creative people during his time at TWS sparked a hidden talent he’s always had and revealed his gifted ability at drawing. After working for numerous brands in the skateboard industry, Paul uses his years of experience to start something he can fully control. Thus, Sixes and Sevens skate shop is birthed and blends together Paul’s love for skateboarding, music, and art. Learn all the details of Paul’s path in skateboarding, the skaters he’s brought up, the people he’s met along the way, and the space created to give back to skateboarding in our latest CORE video above.“

Patrick O’Dell’s Epicly Later’d, The Book

In an age where no one is certain of the future of print, yet we’re all seemingly starved for it, epic photo books have been dropping left and right. Right on time is Patrick O’Dell’s Epicly Later’d photo book—a collection of photos from his popular web log of the early aughts.

Mostly NYC skateboarding, culture, and late nights, but also featuring road trips, musicians and more, these photos of times before cell phones and social media are near and dear to our hearts. Pre-order the book here and stay tuned to O’Dell’s IG for more info.

„My webzone has been adapted into a book 😲. It’s an autobiography, it’s a party blog, a romance novel, an episode, a qualification“

//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js

„In 2004, well before the advent of social media as a global phenomenon, photographer Patrick O’Dell launched the celebrated blog Epicly Later’d. Dedicated to documenting the adventure and mayhem of the NYC skate/music/downtown scene, the site distinguished itself with its offhand wit, its irreverent cast of characters, and an intimate photo-diary format years ahead of its time. Nearly two decades later, the impact of O’Dell’s work can be appreciated in full: its influence is now apparent across photo, art, and skate culture, and the original photographs still astonish. Compiled by O’Dell and editor Jesse Pearson, Epicly Later’d collects the best of the blog into a body of work that’s evocative, funny, and wildly compelling.

Patrick O’Dell is a photographer, photo editor, filmmaker, and skateboarder from Columbus, Ohio. In addition to the creation of the seminal photoblog Epicly Later’d, his work includes serving as a photographer for Thrasher magazine and photo editor for Vice. He also created and produced the webshow and television adaptations of Epicly Later’d, and is an acclaimed director of music videos and the film Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine.“
