Erick Silva’s “Classic” Part

Sitting in Tompkins Square Park, on a nice Indian Summer day, occasionally pushing around—you could do a lot worse in life. The Vans team was in NYC in September, which might explain the Curren Caples clip here. Jiro is in there skating before Tompkins got repaved and repainted. Carlisle Aikens comes in with the power-popped, butter switch heels. Stay tuned at 3:00 when the parkour homie tries a backflip from board to board!
After the backflip intermission, we’re back on the blacktop with Carlisle absolutely killing it and some high flying stunts of his own by young Jiro.
At any rate, Naquan Rollings is one of our favorite filmmakers working in NYC right now and his edits are exquisite time capsules of what’s going on in the city that never sleeps.Â
Here’s that Vans week we were talking about earlier:

This past weekend was a family affair as both Kanaan and Dalton Dern turned pro! Kanaan is the newest Zero rider to have his name on a board, while Dalton joins the pro ranks for Heroin. What an epic way to surprise them! Check out the posts:

Jamie Thomas and Fos came together to surprise their newest pros in a unique way. Two brothers, two board brands—one epic celebration. Skateboarding is cool like that! Both of these dudes absolutely deserve the bump and their debut graphics are super sick. They’ve been putting in the work for years and we’re stoked to see all their blood and sweat being rewarded in the best way.Â

If you know anything about the Dern brothers and how they skate, you know they’re constantly producing. No gimmicks here. Both of them fit the mold of each brand so perfectly, too. Dedicated. Committed. If you think these two are going to slow down and become some comfy, lazy pros—think again. Â

Big ups to Jamie and Fos, and of course all the rippers at Zero and Heroin who constantly kill it behind the scenes so moments like this can happen. These dudes are living the dream, but it wouldn’t be possible without some serious support and effort from all involved.Â
Head to your local shop and pick up Kanaan and Dalton’s debut boards, or hit the Zero/Heroin sites. Your first pro-model is obviously a huge deal. I’m excited to see what these rookie pros produce in the coming years. Congrats, dudes!Â

Get inspired by San Diego’s Mario Negos who’s been hitting the streets of San Diego for the past four decades. He skates, he films, he’s produced and edited the series of epic Curb Crusher videos—there’s nothing this guy can’t do. Skateboarding is truly the fountain of youth! Check this new part hosted by Willy’s Workshop Skateboards that is a celebration of the life of Mario’s father, Conrado.

The skateboarding world is heartbroken by the news of legendary Patti McGee’s passing on October 17, 2024. An icon, an innovator, a skateboarder, and a straight-up badass, Patti’s influence on skateboarding will live on forever.Â
//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js
All of skateboarding felt this one. It’s a tough pill to swallow, and while I’ve seen countless heartwarming posts from top pros, skateboarding enthusiasts, friends, family and everyone else in between sharing memories and stories of Patti, I really enjoyed former TWS alumni, Miki Vuckovich’s post (above) and all the kind words he shared:
„FAREWELL TO THE QUEEN – I last saw Patti McGee less than two weeks ago at the Oceanside Band Shell, site of many historic skateboarding events. Except this time she was there cheering and supporting a group of youth and adaptive skateboarders at the @poseidenfoundation competition, more than a half century after she made national and international news, winning the first Women’s National Skateboarding Championship title in 1964,“ he wrote on Instagram.Â
„She would appear on the covers of both LIFE magazine and Skateboarder magazine the following year, plus the Dick Clark Show and other popular TV programs. She was the poster girl for the ‚Craze And The Menace of Skateboarding,‘ as LIFE magazine called it. And in the past couple of decades, she and her daughter @yeahailey could be seen at skate events, large and small, continuing to share her story, her presence, and her support for the new communities that have adopted skateboarding as their own—groups that hadn’t previously seen themselves in skateboarding, but have stepped in to become part of our growing community.“Â

I was fortunate enough to meet Patti a few times myself and she was always the kindest, most charming human. An absolute legend! Yet so humble, real and sincere. One thing was certain—she loved skateboarding. And skateboarding loved her right back. The mark she left on the culture is incredible and the influence she had is monumental. Style like hers can’t be faked! She was as real as it gets.
„A couple days after we were with her in Oceanside, Patti entered hospice care,“ Miki continued. „She passed last night, and the tributes have been rolling through the channels like a champion skateboarder who saw an opportunity to share what she loved and went for it. And she continued sharing, right to the end.“

News like this is never easy to take, but it’s a great time to reflect and remember just how amazing of a person Patti was. If you skate, then I’d guarentee you’ve been seeing posts about the news as well. Take some time and read through the stories, scroll through some photos and honor the life of skateboarding’s official queen, Patti McGee. Our hearts go out to her entire family.Â
„The Queen is dead,“ Miki concluded. „Long live the Queen.“
And we’ll echo that, Mik. RIP Patti McGee.Â
