Asics Skateboarding recently shared a sleek new colorway of its popular Gel-Vickka Pro model in Black/Graphite Grey on Instagram and at first glance, they look super easy on the eyes. Classic aesthetic meets modern performance! Take a look:

They might look simple and minimalistic, but if you’re like me, that’s exactly what I look for in a skate shoe. I don’t need any bells and whistles—just give me a strong shoe built for skateboarding.
Asics might be new to the skate game, but they continue to do things the right way, as far as I’m concerned. I really appreciate how they’re setting the stage for a handful of skateboarders who genuinely deserve it, but might get overlooked at times, too. And honestly, all the shoes I’ve seen so far look great.

If you want some of the nitty-gritty details, let me save you a trip. Peep what the crew at Asics has to say about the shoe below:
„The GEL-VICKKA™ PRO shoes is inspired by the VICKKA™ training shoe from the 1970s. Its original design focus was to help increase stability during complex training movements. Today, its revamped with a skate-specific functionality. The upper’s forefoot features a one-piece construction that helps reduce tearing. Its sockliner design is based on the movement analysis that occurs while skating. This component applies different levels of pressure on the inside and outside to help promote a better center of gravity and stability. Lastly, our GEL™ technology is strategically placed in the heel to help decrease the impact of hard landings.“
See, nitty-gritty.

I was curious to see how many skate shops across the globe were carrying these online, and to my pleasant surprise, there were way more than I realized! That just means they’re all available in-store as well, so as always, if you’re feeling these just roll down to your local and see them for yourself.
Admittedly, I’ve yet to try a pair. But that’ll change sooner than later. Until then, I’ll just keep watching the drops happen and see what this crew hits us with in the new year.
