Vans Block Party in Brooklyn is coming this weekend and here’s everything you need to know

The event will include skate jams and lessons, an „Off the Wall“ community market, and even a „skate rave.“

Pull up!

Vans‘ core mission is to celebrate skateboarding’s impact on culture and champion the skateboarding world’s creatives who are „Always Pushing“ progression. Now Vans is set to touch down at Vans Skate Space 198 in Bushwick, Brooklyn for an all-day block party. Occurring right in the middle of New York Fashion Week on September 7, the party is a celebration of the brand’s long-standing support of NYC skate culture and an opportunity to bring together the individuals, brands, and shops in New York that, just like Vans, are „Always Pushing.“

During the day, there will be an open skate session at Vans Skate Space 198’s extensive concrete park and a prize-filled skate jam with a cash-for-tricks component and gift card giveaways from skate shops KCDC, Labor, and Tenant. For those newer to the world of skating, KCDC and Sk8Babes will also host free skate lessons. Sign up here for skate lessons.

Accompanying the skating will be a community-focused “Off the Wall” market from Vans family members like LQQK Studio, Quartersnacks, PunkandYo, Homerun, Star Team, EC Melodi, FTI, Nayfandwavey and more. Vans Skateboarding team members like Beatrice Domond, Ben Kadow, Dick Rizzo, Shiloh Catori, Rowan Zorilla, Zion Wright, Curren Caples, and Efron Danzig will be in attendance. Additionally, there will be DJs throughout the day, including LQQK Studios, Ben Kadow, and King Marie, as well as food and beverage vendors.

The good times don’t end when the sun goes down either, as Vans will transform the space into a „skate rave“ at night. After a Skate Session with the Vans Skateboarding team, the venue will turn the lights down and the bass up, featuring fresh ghettotech from Detroit’s HiTech and New York’s Jubilee.

Mark your calendar for September 7, and RSVP for free here.

Look: Andrew Reynolds Uncovers Some Serious Gems While Digging Through Storage

I’m not saying most pro skateboarders—or let’s be real, all skateboarders—are hoarders, but sometimes it’s just hard to let go of things that might make others think, „Seriously?“

In all fairness, holding onto these random little treasures, like the ones Andrew Reynolds recently uncovered from storage, is totally worth it. Any Reynolds fan would be thrilled to see these personal gems from the past, and they’re something we can all relate to in one way or another. Check these out:

The old tees and photos are rad. The note from his daughter is super sweet. The 1st place Skatepark of Tampa plaques are epic. But let’s be real here—those trick lists belong in a museum, if you ask me! So, so sick.

When I say „they’re all something we can relate to one way or another“ I was really talking about those. I don’t know about you, but personally, I’ve done the same exact thing countless times over the years. Whether I was filming for my own personal video parts in local homie videos, or simply daydreaming of the spots I wanted to skate and tricks I wanted to secure, it’s so awesome knowing that legends like Reynolds do the same thing.

Now, these lists might not be surprising to some of you. I get it. I’ve technically known that Reynolds (and tons of other pros) make lists like this, but actually seeing it is a different story. Plus, I think it’s the fact that it was that era of Reynolds that we see here that hits the hardest. What a strange way to experience nostalgia!

It’s sort of crazy that we can just see the words on that piece of paper and fully picture the tricks and clips that he has written down, too. I mean, seriously…that’s wild. It doesn’t just prove his status as a professional, but just says so much about that time and place in skateboarding. I don’t know. I just thought this was so rad.

All I can say is that I couldn’t agree more with that little nugget of wisdom Reynolds hits us with in the caption: „Try and enjoy the moments, they go quick!“

The Boss knows. Forever an inspiration. We want more!

Adidas Teases Fresh New ‚Tyshawn II‘ in White/Black/Navy Colorway

Adidas just teased another tasteful colorway of the highly sought-after Tyshawn II in white/black/navy. The only problem? Well, in fairness, these kicks look so clean, you’ll probably want to keep them fresh—but they’re also so skate-ready (like all of TJ’s shoes), you’ll be itching to lace them up and hit the streets all the same. What can you do? Regardless, get a closer look below:

„Inspired by the archives and rebuilt from the ground up, the Tyshawn II sports a perforated toebox for enhanced breathability, complemented by a dual-layer toe cap for added durability,“ adidas mentions in the caption. Tacking on: „It’s lightweight adidas LIGHTSTRIKE midsole provides support while absorbing impact.“

Simply put—these kicks are tough, stylish and look super comfortable.

Is it me, or has TJ been sort of quiet the last few months? Does it even matter? For someone on his level, that could mean a number of things. Is he going to hit us with a surprise new video part? Is he busy building his entrepreneurial empire? Is he enjoying some well-deserved rest? (Eh, definitely not the last one.) Whatever it is, we’re all eagerly waiting one way or another. I mean, you can only do so many tricks on the 145th St. Subway Gap and can only ollie over so many Ferraris

Anyways, Tyshawn’s new colorway is now available at skate shops across the globe now—hit up your local and check their shoe wall—but won’t be available online until Sunday, September 1st.

Who’s copping ‚em?

What the Upcoming Burnside Bridge Rebuild Project Means for the Iconic Burnside DIY Skatepark

Portland’s Burnside Bridge is scheduled for a pretty significant rebuild in the next year or two, with construction expected to close it for several years. While this may cause some minor inconveniences for the local community, for skateboarders, it’s much heavier, as skateboarding’s beloved Burnside Skatepark will also be affected.

Friend of TWS, ripping skater, content creator and all-around epic human, Zack Dowdy took it upon himself to roll up to the famed DIY to dig a little deeper and learn more about what the future looks like for this historic slab of cement. He basically made a mini documentary about Burnside’s current situation and it’s super interesting. Check it out:

The DIY spirit at Burnside has thrived for decades, inspiring countless similar projects across the globe and unarguably producing some of the heaviest skateboarders in the game. Not just anyone can step to the daunting walls of this place! Just being there and taking it all in has the potential to give you the chills.

But unfortunately, when the Burnside Bridge was originally built in 1926—long before Mark ‚Red‘ Scott and his crew started building under it in the early ’90s—modern earthquake safety regulations weren’t in place. By today’s standards, the bridge is a serious safety hazard for the surrounding community, especially if an earthquake actually hit! Pure chaos.

It’s all pretty heavy. Burnside is so much more than just a skatepark—it’s a straight-up historic landmark in skateboarding! And while I fully understand the importance of the bridge reconstruction for the safety of the community, the actual thought of Burnside not existing—or even closing for multiple years—is sort of hard to fathom.

That said, everything is still up in the air for now. This is obviously a massive project with countless details that still need to be worked out. However, meetings are taking place, planning is underway, and soon enough, we’ll know what the future holds for Burnside. Keep those fingers crossed!

I’m stoked Zack was able to catch a few lines during his visit. If anything, let his video (and the news in general) inspire you to get up to Portland and see this historical place yourself! It should be on every skateboarder’s bucket list—no questions asked. Thanks for the info, Zack! We’ll do our best to post more as we learn more all the same.

New Balance Teases Ice-Cold Franky Villani 417 x Eyedress Collab, Dropping Friday

Franky Villani and his musician buddy, Eyedress (who just happens to be a 5x platinum recording artist, according to his Instagram) have teamed up on a super limited, all-white colorway of Franky’s New Balance 417. The shoes drop this Friday, August 20th on Eyedress‘ website. Get a closer look below:

//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js

I wasn’t totally familiar with Eyedress, but after doing a little research, it all makes sense. Not only is his music right up Franky’s alley, but Villani has even been featured on one (maybe more?) of his tracks as well. These two are collaborating on multiple levels and it’s rad to see.

//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js

In fact, this collaboration actually stemmed from Franky skating to Eyedress’ music. Being a skateboarder himself, Eyedress noticed Franky using his music and hit Franky in his DM, and, well…the rest is history.

The shoes look ice-cold and super clean, stamped with some subtle Franky art on the back upper section of each shoe. Folks seem pretty pumped about them in the comments, gladly letting Villani and Eyedress that they’ll surely be copping a pair or two. Can’t beat a classic, all-white pair of NB# though, right? Right.

Again, the shoes will be available this Friday, August 20th on the Eyedress online store. Not sure if shops will be getting these or not? But if you want a pair, tapping in here on Friday is your best bet! Congrats to these two on another rad collab. Slide your feet into a pair and start cooling off—summer is almost over! Let the shorter days and longer sessions begin.
