35th North’s Iconic ‚All City Showdown‘ Makes a Triumphant Return After Eight Years

35th North is one of the dopest skate shops in the game, and with some support from Vans, there’s nothing they can’t do! Right!? Well, I’d have to say yes. The infamous ‚All City Showdown‘ retutned this year after an eight year hiatus, but if you ask me, it’s like it never left.

This is pure, raw skateboarding at its finest. This is community building at its finest. The concept rules, the skaters killed it. Ah, welcome back ACS! Press play and remind yourself what you’ve been missing. So rad.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the „All City Showdown“ concept, let’s let the dudes behind the scenes take the stage:

„35th North and Vans bring ACS BACK! After an eight year hiatus, the original true street skateboarding contest born in Seattle has returned. This year, 10 teams of four skaters each (three skating and one filming) had just eight hours to get footage on August 25th, 2024. This was the 12th year of ACS and the 1st year of its return since 2016!“

Personally, I was so stoked to see this contest return. It shot me back to the glory days of simply charging and skating with your homies, stacking clips and, most importantly, being on a legit mission. Can’t beat that!

Not only is a contest like this absolute fun for all involved, but it’s such a proper glimpse into a variety of low-key scenes across the country. Whether you’re here rooting for your favorite squad or just getting a taste of what’s going on elsewhere, this is such a rad concept and again, I’m so happy to see it return. Plus, I love 35th North. Seattle’s finest!

Guy Mariano’s iPhone clips are better than most pros‘ parts

It’s no hyperbole to say that clips Guy Mariano films and puts on his IG stories are better than what most pro skaters put in their video parts. In his late 40s, Guy is still pushing the limits of modern day street skating, and finding insane spots to do it on! He’s a pure skate rat. Shout out to Dickies for putting this compilation together of clips that would have otherwise disappeared into the Meta abyss.

„iPhone clips of Guy Mariano from 2022-2024“

The first clip says it all: Guy can go bigger on natural transition spots than just about anyone else, and his iPhone clips are filmed by guys like Stefan Janoski! Why he doesn’t have a Nike SB pro model is anyone’s guess. Frontside flipping way above coping on a mini board? Unthinkable for most.

So cool to see Guy skate some of the same Downtown LA spots that made him famous in Video Days three decades later. Speaking of decades later, Lakai’s Fully Flared came out in 2007 and Guy still has combos today he didn’t even do in that video. Skateparks, ditches, fakie flipping off a crack in the sidewalk—it’s almost as if he’s so talented he needs to find the most jacked spots to challenge himself.

Peep Guys‘ IG remix from 2021, he’s been doing this a long time!

Vans and Carpet Co. Tease Exciting ‚Old Skool‘ Collaboration for Next Year

Vans and Carpet Co. are joining forces on a special ‚Old Skool‘ collaboration set to drop early next year and recently teased them for the first time on Instagram. The hype is already real. Just when you thought the shoe news was put to bed for the rest of the year… here we are! Take a look:

The caption simply says, „1977 pairs made for a reason!“ which is certainly fitting, but 1977 pairs of shoes isn’t that much, you know? All that tells me is these things are clearly going to be super limited and might be a little hard to cop. Get your affairs in order—these won’t last!

While the news of the shoes themselves is exciting enough, you gotta watch the video they made to hype the collaboration up. Peep it below. Can you name all the sneaky cameos? Absolutely hilarious. Yes, the nailed it.

I’m always down for a funny skit, so this was a real unexpected treat, if you ask me.

Well, in one of the captions, Vans mentions that the shoes are „coming soon“ but I have seen photos of people wearing them in their stories. We’ll just have to wait and see. But like I said, if you’re hoping to secure a pair yourself, stay on it!

Otherwise, what else can we say?

Be safe out there tonight and have a Happy New Year!

DC Skateboarding Ends the Year with Heavy-Hitting New Video ‚No Big Deal‘

With Brian Panebianco handling the edit, and a cast of heavy hitters like Josh Kalis, John Shanahan, Lucien Clarke, Kevin Bilyeu, Will Marshall, Jahmir Brown, Thaynan Costa, Masaki Hongo, Shintaro Hongo, Luca Gozzo, Francisco Rios, and Anthony Rosado, DC’s latest video offering ‚No Big Deal‘ couldn’t have come at a better time. What a way to close out the year! Take a look:

John Shanahan kicks things off with a bang and really sets the tone for the rest of the video. This dude lives and breathes DC and has been keeping it real since day one. I also love how low-key talented he is at skating transition! Sneaky all-terrain killer.

The rest of the squad comes out swinging throughout, including the one and only Josh Kalis who is still looking as good as ever on the board. Just wouldn’t be a DC video without Kalis in the mix.

Well, the new year is pretty much here. Just when you thought all the brands were resting up and plotting for 2025, little nuggets like this keep popping up. Love to see it. Just can’t keep these dudes out the streets! Thank you, skateboarding.

Spend some time in the comments on YouTube if you get a chance. The love for DC is still so real, and I’m here for it. Their team has certainly gone through some heavy changes, and there’s obviously a recognizable theme to be found here, but what can ya do? I’ve been saying 2025 might officially be the year big puffy shoes truly make their return… edits like this are making me think it just might be.

Regardless, let’s see what this squad brings to the table next year. We’ll see you there.
