Erick Winkowski and Cole Gossetton Battle It Out on the Santa Cruz ‚Super S.K.A.T.E. Show‘

Andrew Cannon is the host of the new Santa Cruz YouTube series, The Santa Cruz SUPER S.K.A.T.E Show and the second episode just went live, featuring Erick Winkowski and Cole Gossetton.

The possibilities for an idea like this are sort of endless, so you know it’s going to be entertaining one way or another. And judging by all the comments, people are pumped! See for yourself:

It’s funny that the skaters themselves basically have no idea what’s going on as Andrew initially explains everything. Because while we’re sitting here scratching our heads, thinking, „What?“ so are they.

Regardless, I’m a big Winkowski fan and watching him skate flat with that boat of a board is always fun. Keep your eyes peeled for more episodes dropping soon! This is just the beginning.

Nike SB Catches up With Dutch Ripper Keet Oldenbeuving as She Preps for Paris Olympics

Nike SB recently caught up with Dutch Olympian, Keet Oldenbeuving to talk skating, the Olympics and to hear about where this journey of hers began.

Fun fact, but Keet’s first international contest was actually in Paris years ago, so you know she’s thrilled to come full circle and compete there again this summer at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The World Stage is waiting! Take a look:

I have to imagine returning to where it all began must be pretty exciting for Keet. As all these skaters prep for the big day, it’s awesome to learn more about where they all came from and what led them to the Olympic Games in the first place.

The future is as bright as ever for Keet and all the skaters participating in the 2024 Summer Games, but the freedom and creative outlet skateboarding provides is still the core reason these rippers are out their repping their countries at—arguably—one of the biggest ’skate contests‘ in the world. The big day is upon us. Get ready.

Hollow Skateboard Trucks – Are They Worth It?

Skateboard trucks are the most overlooked part of assembling a complete skateboard. Picking suitable trucks can make or break your skating experience.

Let’s distill the differences between trucks and hollow trucks in this article.

What Truck Size Do I Pick?

Without a doubt, all skaters must first consider size. The truck size is the length of the truck. Size is important to match your deck size. A larger truck than your deck will weigh more, and inhibit your tricks. During flip tricks big trucks will cause wheels and trucks to hit the ground or ledges at undesired times.

Small trucks (more than .5 inches smaller than the deck width) will also detract from your skateboard experience. The gap between small trucks and a larger board will create instability during turns. A big gap in size can be a huge danger to the rider.

Recommendations

Deck Size…………Truck Size

7.5…………………………7.42-7.55

7.75…………………………7.65-7.80

8.0………………………….7.9-8.05

(An exact match is ideal)

What Are Hollow Trucks?

Hollow trucks were invented to reduce the weight of trucks. A lighter board is beneficial for ollies, and other tricks. Hollow trucks are when the inside of the trucks that have been hollowed out.

Trucks are made out of stainless steel – a durable material. The removal of steel has a weakening effect on the truck. Generally, hollow trucks start by hollowing out the kingpin. The kingpin is sort of acting like a big screw that holds together your trucks, washers, and bushings.

Where Does the Kingpin Go?

The kingpin is the most important component of the truck. It holds the truck together. It connects the truck base (baseplate) to the bushings, and axle.

Are Lighter Trucks Better?

So, what’s the word on the street? Are lighter skateboard trucks really better?

The answer may surprise you – there is no consensus. The choice depends on your preference. Skaters usually pick based on their skating style. Some skaters desire the responsiveness of lighter trucks, while others need heavier trucks for more stability.

What’s Wrong With Hollow Trucks?

Hollow trucks are more likely to break. The process of removing metal also weakens the strength of the trucks. Many beginners and intermediates will not need to worry about trucks breaking. Hollow trucks are problematic for high-impact skating. A broken truck can cause severe injury and abruptly stop a skateboard.

Who Should Buy Hollow Trucks?

Technical skaters who need maximum performance for low-impact skating will benefit most. These skaters typically skate ledges, flat ground, manual pads, and generally close-to-the-ground objects.

What are the Lightest Skateboard Trucks?

  1. Tensor Trucks: Tensor is recognized for their light and durable skateboard trucks, often using materials like magnesium to reduce weight.
  2. Krux Trucks: Krux offers a variety of trucks known for their lightweight design, catering to both street and park skating.
  3. Independent Trucks: While Independent Trucks are known for their durability and strength, often heavy, they also offer some lighter models, such as the Hollow series, which use hollow axles and kingpins to reduce weight.
  4. Thunder Trucks: Thunder Trucks are popular for their responsive feel and lightweight construction, making them a favorite among many skateboarders.
  5. Venture Trucks: Venture Trucks are another brand that offers lightweight options without compromising on durability.

These brands often have specific lightweight models or series within their product lines, so it’s worth checking their offerings to find the best fit for your skating style and preferences.

Conclusion

There are many approaches to light trucks. Hollow kingpins are simply one approach. To answer- Are These Hollow Trucks Better? A skater’s style and skill level must be considered. High-impact and advanced skaters may choose to skip hollow trucks in lieu of stability and support. Low-impact tricks can benefit from the lightness of hollow trucks.

Jeremy Leabres Lights Up the Streets in New VX Part for Pig Wheels

Jeremy Leabres has been having one helluva year. He’s a beast on the board, has a deep bag of tricks and does everything with that solid, brag-worthy style that you just can’t fake. Call it throwaway, call it leftovers… whatever. This VX part for Pig Wheels is bangin‘ and has a genuine, classic video part feel to it. Short, sweet and straight to the point. Dive in:

He’s one of those dudes who must always be sitting on a stack of clips, so why not put them out there for us all to enjoy?

Clips are clips! Respect the process. From the I.E. to LA and beyond, Jeremy keeps the fire burning. And honestly, the part offers a nice little variety of the skating we don’t always get from this ripping Toy Machine pro in his other parts. Big fan. Plus, I’m still a sucker for VX1000 footage… so consider me stoked.

Watch: Primitive Just Dropped Filipe Mota’s Unmastered ‚DAYDREAM‘ Clips

Filipe’s part in the Primitive Am video, ‚DAYDREAM‘ showed us all yet again that he’s on the path to be one of the greats. But really, it’s the stuff we don’t always see—the battles, close calls, slams, grueling sessions—that really make the most epic video parts what they are.

If you’re a fan of raw clips, you’re in luck—Primitive recently dropped 20+ minutes of Filipe’s unmastered clips and they really put his ‚DAYDREAM‘ part into perspective in a really cool way. Take a look:

In certain categories, Filipe’s bag of tricks is basically unmatched. Not just anyone can pull off some of the moves that this dude has resting in his back pocket. His hurricane game speaks for itself. And somehow, he escapes some of those bails like he’s skating a flatbar or something?

If you were a fan of his DAYDREAM part, you’ll certainly get a kick out of this. Someone on YouTube commented, „Parts make me appreciate skating, these vids make me appreciate skaters.“ Couldn’t have said it any better. I’m a huge fan of raw clips and really get a kick out of feeling like I’m there on the session.

At the end of the day, there’s no denying that Filipe Mota is an absolute machine. But again, clips like this remind us that even the most talented skateboarders on the planet still gotta work for it. Sometimes we simply forget these dudes are in fact human after all. That said… his kickflip front blunt on the Hollywood 16 still leaves that notion up for debate. Outta control!

Anyways, kick back, press play and let these sessions motivate you. Nothing important comes easy, and skaters like Filipe know that. But hey, putting in the work and winning these battles is half the fun, right? Right.
